A Cautionary Tale

Be careful what you wish for....you just might get it.
***
Or as Jacob so eloquently phrased, "everything you wanted, in the worst possible way..."

Many of us have preconceptions of how we might feel or behave once we have achieved or acquired all the things that make up the ultimate pretty picture for our life.

You know, the “if only” list: if only I had the power, celebrity, success, wealth, prestige, toys, entourage, trophy wife, etc….then I would be happy.

The biggest preconception humans have is that “success is the best revenge.”

Well, there is a healthy and thriving self-help industry in Southern California that services the very wealthy and very famous clientele of the area who discovered the hard way that money, power, prestige & fame aren’t what they assumed it would be.

Now that they have achieved all the things on their “to do” lists – they have found that they still aren’t happy….they feel a bit lost and either turn to self-destructive behaviors or self-help groups.

The Universe has a very twisted sense of humor.

One of the laws of this universe is that: for every good thing, there is an equal and opposite bad thing.

For example, if you make more money….you will pay more taxes. Or, if you are an extremely pretty & charming female…you will attract a lot more men then your less attractive counterparts – but there will be a lot of jerks in the mix as well as keepers.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

It is important to reconcile the fact that there is always a consequence or a price for the choices we make or the gifts we receive.

I have found that moderation in all things works for me.

And that happiness (not success) is the best revenge.
